Published in 2005, Selecting Best Value – a guide for private and public organisations awarding contracts for cleaning services, has been updated by the European Federation of Cleaning Industries (EFCI).

What has been updated?

The guide, which was originally published to help those hiring a cleaning company, was reworked to reflect the changes and developments that have taken place within the cleaning industry. This includes encouraging businesses to focus on quality but also the social aspects of their role. New changes

Although office cleaning is still the biggest sector for cleaning services, its share of contract cleaning fell from 67.6% in 1995 to 51.8% in 2014. Other sectors which require specialist cleaning, such as manufacturing and healthcare, have taken over and have been a major factor in the office cleaning percentage dropping.

Growth

From data collected in 2014, the EFCI stated that cleaning contractors from the 20 European countries which were surveyed, reported a total turnover over of 썹,925 billion which was a 14.5% increase since 2012. This meant that the overall annual turnover growth was on average 9.35% over the last 24 years.

Rise in popularity

Since 2012, there was a small increase in the number of cleaning contractors, with the total exceeding 171,560 in 2014. There was a 2% increase of those employed within the cleaning industry from 2012 to 2014 with more than 3.39 million people employed in 2014. Overall, this meant an annual employment growth of 4.13% over the past 24 years.
