The security seal is an important part of retail defence.
The next time you are out shopping you might notice a small tag or seal on the product you are looking to buy. Please pay it no heed, it is just there to protect the stock. It could well be a Security Seal that is attached to some clothing,to razors or other high retail worth item. For example, it is usually attached to large items like electronics or even smaller ones such as perfume.
Why is a security seal attached? Sadly in this day and age certain products are targeted by the shoplifter. In many cases the criminal attempts to smuggle the products out under clothing, if it is a small item. The other way is that they disguise larger items inside their trolley by covering them with cheaper goods and then pushing the trolley out as quickly as possible.
The security seal will immediately activate the sensors at the shop entrance. The law currently states that an apprehension of a suspect cannot occur in the shop but can only happen when they leave it. As soon as the alarm is activated the guards and staff can immediately stop the shopper and ask to see into bags etc.
The till staff must check to see if there is a tag and remove it at payment. It’s annoying if you have to go back but, sadly, retailers have been forced into this position
